On August 9Tonno Callipro Calabria Vibo Valentia an Italian volleyball club confirmed that Yuji Nishida Japanese teen star opposite will join the club for the next Italian Serie season.

Yuji Nishida debuted for the JTEKT Stings in 2018 before joining the Japanese national team last year. In the V League last season; he led the club to victory in 2020.  and soon earned a spot on Japan’s national volleyball team as their opposite.

“If Nishida goes to Valentia the Italian Serie season is decided before it even starts,” says Volleyball Explained in their podcast.

Recently, Nishida helped Japan place 7th in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, scoring 105 points. In addition, in the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship, he helped Japan finish 4th, and was the youngest player on the team at 19 years old, and was voted the best opposite of the tournament.

“It’s a good decision because Nishida is still young and Europe, or Italy, has harder competition and a more diverse playstyle which will drive him to become a better player,” says Richie L. from 11th grade.

Notwithstanding the fact that Yuji Nishida’s height is 1.86m, which is below a standard player who, to put into perspective, averages 1.96m tall. Nishida Yuji’s fearsome jumping skills and impressive spikes have led his team to victory many times.

“Nishida Yuji’s transfer will impact Japan greatly, without his powerful spikes, Japan will have to adapt to find a new way to score and instill fear in the opposition.” Said Josh J. from 9th grade. “On the other hand, Nishida will impact the flow of Calabria Valentia, changing volleyball in Italy and Europe.”

At Tonno Calipari Valentia, Nishida Yuji will join a strong group of players from around the world including Mauricio Borges, Douglas Souza, and Flavio Gualberto.
