This year’s Grade 10 General Council Elections took place on August 25, during the end-of-the-day community event. Sophomores from all around campus gathered in the tiny black box, and waited eagerly for speeches, along with elections.

The candidates for each role were as follows:

  • President: Emma Rigassio, Jerry Julius, Leah Lee, Gwen Farm
  • Vice President: Kyohimeko Ka, Eileen Jeong
  • Secretary: Srinjayi Rusha Sen, Jenny Choi
  • Treasurer: Dabina Seo, Yiu Wai Yuen

All of the speeches were inspiring, entertaining, and sometimes heartwarming. It is great to see people willing to put in more effort to make the year better for everyone. These people have hopefully received the support and attention they deserve.Students watched as their peers delivered their speeches one by one. The treasurer, secretary, vice president and presidential candidates spoke, respectively in the aforementioned order. The competition for the position of President was huge; four people stood as potential candidates. The elections were met with a great deal of enthusiasm. From the audience there was cheering, squealing, and yelling, all to show their fellow classmates support.

After all the speeches were done, students handed in their votes, and we listened about the upcoming China Trips. The election results would be released the following morning.

On August 26, StuCo elections results were announced over the P.A. System. For Grade 10, we have:

  • Treasurer: Yiu Wai Yuen
  • Secretary: Srinjayi Rusha Sen
  • Vice President: Kyohimeko Ka
  • President: Gwen Farm

Congratulations to those people, and thank you to everyone who participated!

Three of the winning sophomore StuCo representatives graciously agreed to share a few words with us:

President:

I’m Gwen Farm and I am the sophomore class president of 2015-2016. I would like to thank those who had voted for me and had faith in me to serve and represent them. I’ll strive to be your voice to you and will put your voice and opinions before mine. Personally, I feel so grateful to be a part of such a dynamic StuCo family and am absolutely honoured to have the privilege to work with such amazing people. In the past, I have had experience serving the whole middle school as president and I loved seeing smiles on faces and diversifying the school through school spirit; all in which makes me super excited to serve you this year.

If you have any ideas to help make this year fun and exciting, please do not hesitate to contact me. My job is to serve you and I’ll be more than happy to fight for your voice. Being an avid dancer for most of my life, I personally thought that our school should participate in APAC dance. So with this dream, I wrote a proposal imposing to have APAC dance as one of our activities last year, and this year, sets the first ever AISG APAC dance team. Not only did I benefit from this but 25 other students did too. So, please come share your ideas and I’ll try to make it happen!

Thank you again for your votes! I am looking forward to representing you this year!

Gwen

Vice President:

My name is Kyohimeko Ka, and this is my second year in AISG. I am really happy that I got elected for this year’s vice president of Grade 10, and of course, I appreciate to all the people who have voted and supported me for this election.

Before handing in the application form for the STUCO election, being honest, I have been thinking for tons of times that whether if I should try again this year. ( I was also one of the Stuco member last year.) Because, I was not sure that if I can make changes for people, or be a good and reliable vice-president. But, later on, I felt like this is a great opportunity that I can talk in front of everyone and share my thoughts to people, therefore I decided to try out again this year.

As you can see from my speech, I want to be a person that I can bring lots of people together as a big family. I love to make friends, and hanging out with friends, so I am glad to see while my friends are all gathered around as a huge community. I hope I can make everyone come to school happily everyday. They don’t need to be worried about being alone at school, because everyone will help out as a big family. I know that this is hard, because this is an international school, and people are coming from different countries having different kinds of perspectives, but still I believe that it is not impossible.

Again, thank you!! and if you have questions or any other requests that you want me to accomplish, please let me know anytime.

Kyohimeko Ka

Secretary:

Hey guys!

My name is Rusha Sen. This is my third year in AISG and I couldn’t be happier. First of all, I would like to thank everyone who voted for me in the elections. It is heart warming that you have entrusted me with this job. I would especially like to thank some of my friends who supported me when I was nervous about running for this position and especially Emma for listening to my speech over and over again.

Last year I learnt a very crucial part of being able to succeed, organisation. I am one of those people who tend to have literally everything on her calendar. You will always see me carrying a small notebook which has my entire day planned. Another thing that I appreciate is leadership. Few years back I was only a follower but AISG transformed me into a leader and made me want this position. But I am not just doing this job for leadership or for organisation. It’s a way of me thanking the AISG community for making me feel good about myself and accepting me just as I am. I intend to work hard so that the sophomores can have an amazing year.

As mentioned before is my speech, change is good. We all change over time and that is perfectly fine. Each of us have different opinions and we all have the right to convey them. Don’t be shy to approach me with ideas or suggestions on how to make this year one of the best years ever! As a secretary, I want to hear what you have to say.

Here’s to making this an amazing year!

Thanks,

Rusha Sen
