As the first quarter of the school year slowly came to an end, the annual door decorating contest was held within the AISG community, sparking friendly competition to arise between advisories of all grades. The door decoration contest is a schoolwide event that stimulates students of all grade levels to design & decor based on a chosen theme within their advisory.
The door decoration contest encouraged new connections to form and creativity to emerge within the student body, wrapping up the first quarter of the school year with a lasting, positive echo that stirs insightful creations.
Advisories worked hard as a unit to come up with an astonishing design that would be displayed on the doors of their advisors’ classrooms’ year long and listed as a contestant for the event. With exciting participation from students and advisors, many outstanding products were made as a result.
The hallways of AISG became colorful. Multiple eye-catching designs were spotted on doors around the school, adding insightful taste to AISG’s modern interior in a humorous and artistic way.
Each advisory got to vote for three designs of each the lower, and upper secondary column,. and after a fair voting procedure, Mr. Boyd’s advisory was presented as the winner for this year’s door decoration contest in the upper secondary bracket. The keen design caught the attention of many advisories, ultimately crowning Mr. Boyd’s advisory as the best upper secondary door decoration of the 2025-26 school year.
Secondary visual arts teacher, Mr. Boyd’s advisory design revolved around a SpongeBob theme, with a small blurb at the bottom of the design which read, “Our secret formula is our Motto” as a cherry on top.
Mr. Boyd explains that his advisory group kept the overall design “simple” to keep things manageable given the little time they had to assemble the design along with active participation and unity.
He then describes how his advisory split into smaller groups that took charge of different aspects of the design. There was a total of three groups, focusing on either the window, the background, or the signage, with everyone responsible for creating their own cartoon character that would be in the design.
“I think they had a couple of different ideas, but I reminded them to keep it simple. Once someone suggested SpongeBob they all instantly agreed. I’m not sure what the enduring power is of our oceanic little friend is, but it spans generations!”. He elaborates, later describing that his whole advisory group felt proud to be recognized for their hard work.
In the end, the door decorating event was not just a competition, but a great experience for many innovative minds in our school community that called for originality and expressiveness.
