3D Printers: The Beginning of our Future

• Bookmarks: 351354

Imagine this, a photo of a ship. It is a flat, 2D representation of a ship on a dull piece of paper. It was printed, from a normal printer. But wouldn’t it be nice to hold a 3D version of that photo in your hands, where you can feel and see the details of the ship? Wouldn’t it be better with the third dimension? Now, with the advancements in science and technology, 3D printing is not only possible but readily available, thanks to the school’s Innovation Lab.

On traditional printers, you will not be able to feel the ship and can miss a lot of detail on said ship. 3D printers, however, allow you to fully appreciate various objects. They are capable of printing decorative objects such as small ships, but also items used in everyday life. People all around the world have used the printer to print things such as mini amplifiers, phone cases, cup holders and much more.

IMG_20093D printers have proved a great innovation in our society recently. These machines are versatile and can sit in your home either as a toy or be used in professional environments. For example, doctors from around the world have begun printing and using artificial organs. Medical advances of these sorts extend to hearts, skin, stem cells, bones, and cartilage. AISG recently purchased 3D printers which are now in the middle school tech lab. It can be found on the second floor. IMG_2010

The art department has used it to create art beyond the canvas. 3D printers not only make photos come to life, but it is the preciseness and accuracy of these cutting edge technology that makes these machines so special. The school’s addition of the 3D printers in the Middle school Lab allows students to involve themselves in a new wave of technological advancements.
