We Want Our Spirit Back!

Regardless of various school events that STUCO has organized, the heatwave never seems as great as what we expect. Caught up with overwhelming schoolwork and stress, many students at AISG lack passion when it comes to school spirit.

AISG faculty has been trying their hardest, setting up several school events to involve students and have them both physically and mentally united. House competitions are just one example of that hard work. Divided into different houses—fire, water, earth and wind—students compete against other to bring glory to their house.

However, school spirit here at AISG never really reaches its potential. Many students during the house competitions forget to bring their house shirts, or even a similar-colored shirt. Adding to this, during the battles, it’s evident that the students of the house are not proportionally active and place the burden of participation on a spirited few, thus the passion and intensity of these events is not shared by all.

It may be true that AISG has not been performing especially well in athletic competitions such as APAC and Tri-cities. From a pragmatic view, this results in our community’s lack of enthusiasm in school spirit and support. Never fear, though: the Beacon staff experimented with drumming up spirit last year, with some lukewarm results, and we plan to apply what we learned to a redoubled effort to generate spirit. We’ll keep you updated with articles highlighting all the school events and activities we’re aware of, and we’ll also be rolling out a new School Spirit Pledge in the next month. School spirit at AISG can definitely be improved. Instead of losing hope in our community, we as a group should be banding together and raising our voices to promote involvement in school events.

Details about Pledge 17-18 will come out soon, including prizes for you and your entire homeroom. For now, voice your passion by sharing your ideas about school spirit in the comments section of this article (i.e., “I attended the boys volleyball match and cheered my head off!”) to be eligible for the first round of prizes.
