APAC Volleyball

In October, the boys’ and girls’ varsity volleyball teams set off on their journey to Shanghai Concordia to participate in the Asia Division APAC tournament. The players spent a wonderful 4 days in Shanghai with a predictable result from the APAC tournament.

The first day of the tournament, the girls played against Concordia winning 2-0 with powerful spikes, consistent serves and amazing defense skills. Shortly after the first game, AISG girls faced a potentially strong team, HKIS. Although HKIS had been playing fiercely in their past games, we had no fear. Our consistency and confidence brought the game to an end with the result 2-1, winning once again. However, AISG girls’ team faced a brief halt from our winning strikes when we lost to CA, a great team from Japan, 2-1.

On the second day of the tournament, the first game we played was against SASPX, one of the strongest teams in APAC. Sadly, SASPX had better skills than us to be frank and we lost yet another game 2-0. At this time in the tournament, we were placed 4th in the round robin, but finally rose to 3rd place after a surprising defeat of SFS. SFS had great hitters, but thankfully, AISG girls played wonderful defense, successfully winning after a tough game of 2-1. At this point, we were placed 3rd in the game, playing against HKIS once again in the playoffs. Unfortunately, we were overconfident with our skills, and we took it fairly easy against HKIS, resulting in 1-3, losing the playoffs.

Because of that one loss, we went from 3rd place all the way to 5th, playing Concordia for 5th and 6th place. We fought hard, but failed to face the challenges Concordia gave us. We lost once again 3-1, placing 6th in the end.
