The 2017-18 school year is here, and AISG principal Mr. Timmerman is no longer new to the community. Last year, he felt very welcomed by the Rams Nation. Being new to the school meant he had to adapt to a completely new environment. However, things weren’t as hard as he expected them to be, primarily because of the many warm people.
Mr. Timmerman says he is no longer able to use the “Well, I’m new!” excuse. However, this year, he feels positive about having a sense of what’s going on. Last year, he was able to say, “I’ve never done this here before” or “How do we do this?” when any challenges arose. He was eager and passionate about learning the school system to make a better environment for everyone. This year, he is glad to have more knowledge about the school and he feels good about being more settled. Generally speaking, Mr. Timmerman thinks the new school year started off positively, and he is already enjoying and looking forward to the rest of his second year at AISG.
For further improvements to the school, Mr. Timmerman thinks all faculty, students, and staff can do is to “strive for our school to get better.” He thinks AISG is a great school and wants AISG to continually improve; he doesn’t believe “one individual does everything to change a whole bunch of systems.” The big picture is “everyone working together.” Moreover, Mr. Timmerman asserted that there will be more “tweaks than major overhauls.” One aspect Mr. Timmerman thinks of as an important part of his job is recruiting new staff when teachers decide to move on to their next job. He looks as it as a “very big job” for him to go out to get the very best teachers he can, and he will continue to do this.
Although it is only his second year at AISG, Mr. Timmerman already feels a great deal of pride for our school. He is impressed by how hard the teachers work, how diligent our students are, how kind people are to one another, and also proud of the broader AISG community. As a parent and “stepping away from his principal job,” he is proud that his children attend AISG and could not wish for a better place to send them. There is so much to be proud of here.
