Tomorrow, Wednesday November 18, the Grade 10 students will embark on a journey to visit factories in Dongguan as a part of their social studies unit, in hopes of extending their knowledge on technological progress and industrialization. Sophomores will be expected to attend the first 30 minutes of the first period (8:15-8:45 A.M.); after that they will depart for their field trip and will return to school at 3:00 P.M.
The sophomores will be put into groups and will explore 1 out of the 3 factories: Delta, a factory that produces electronics in a green and eco-friendly way, a shoe company that works for Nike, and a shoe company that works for Michael Kors. The sophomores will be given the opportunity to question the employees at the companies in order to gain a better understanding of the workers’ housing and working conditions in modern day China.
All this is done to enhance the quality of the sophomores’ education in their social studies classes and their unit based on industrialization. This field trip has been done many times before by the previous generations of sophomores and most people say that it has been a rather pleasing experience. We hope the sophomores this year will have fun as well.
(Note: Wednesday November 18 is also the day APAC choir, dance team, and orchestra will depart for their own events.)
