I’m Digging It: Tri Cities Girls Volleyball

This year, the AISG girls volleyball team traveled to Shanghai on Friday Sept 15th for the annual Tri Cities. The lady rams participated in a rigorous 2 day competition with 3 other schools: Western Academy of Beijing (WAB), Shanghai American School Pudong (SASPD), and Shanghai American School Puxi (SASPX).

Not even two hours after getting off the plane, our girls started off by playing against WAB. Although WAB girls undergo more training than our lady rams, we were still able to push through, winning all three sets out of five. Our senior player Tiffany Chan mentioned “our teamwork, spirit, and attitude were the reasons we were able to fight through and win.”

After a five hour gap between the two games, the girls played against the host for Tri Cities, SASPD. The girls played hard, earning them a win of 3-2 once again. Diana Lee said “Pudong is one of the harder team, I think we proved ourselves by beating them.”

Early in the morning the next day, AISG girls played against one of the top teams, SASPX. With our strong defense, we were able to win the first set of the game. However, as the game progressed, the Puxi girls started spiking harder at us, and receiving most of our hits. By the end of the game, even though our girls lost by 1-3, we still fought through and kept the score close.

In the afternoon, the girls played for 3rd and 4th place against WAB. Since we beat WAB the first time around, we thought it was going to be an easy game. However, the WAB girls played tougher than we expected, beating us 3-2.

As senior Tiffany Chan said, “although we ended up last in Tri Cities, I think we came a long way.”
