On Wednesday, November 1st, 6-12 grade Choir and Orchestra had their winter concert. The performers were the middle school orchestra, the high school orchestra, then the middle school choir to the high school choir. The whole concert lasted one and a half hours.
An orchestra is a large instrumental ensemble typical of classical music, which mixes instruments from different families, including bowed string instruments (such as violin, viola, cello and double bass) as well as brass, woodwinds, and percussion instruments. The middle school orchestra offered an introduction to the potential of our school’s musical talents. With little to no mishaps during the concert, middle school is the time to start their musical talents. Ms. Lin showcased her 8th-grade middle school orchestra students by presenting the 8th-grade students and bringing out their musical potential when going to high school next year.
High school is known to be the time to express and learn more about the talents the students possess. The high school orchestra played extraordinarily well through the songs that ranged from classical music to more current pop. The high school truly embraced their moment on stage and passionately expressed their interest in music. With talented musicians coming from middle school, this year’s high school orchestra has never been as good as before. To represent the high school symphony orchestra, Ms. Lin brought three talented musicians to play in front of the symphony with a short little trio solo.
AISG’s choirs were not far behind. A choir, (also known as a quire, chorale or chorus), is a musical ensemble of singers. Choral music is the music written specifically for such an ensemble to perform. Choirs sometimes perform music from the classical era, which spans from the Medieval era to the present, or popular and more present era. Most choirs come with a guide called the conductor, who leads the performances with arms and face gestures.
The middle school choir presented brilliantly with songs from old folk songs to the Disney movie theme “Nemesis.” Like any other middle school symphony or band, the middle schoolers showcased the potential of AISG towards the field of music. The kids sang extraordinarily well with some missed keynotes, but that is part of the learning process. The kids sang with spirit and danced like tribesmen. With bright concentration and determination to present their grade’s capability, the middle school choir gave us a great image of our future high school choir.
The high school choir performance was nothing like the past performances. With dazzles of hypnotic movements to bring the audience more into the music, the vocals and tones of the high school choir were on point. The songs were spiritual and moving at the same time. To showcase the capabilities of the high school choir, senior and actor Santiago Villar gave us a solo performance of skill and determination of “giving it all” attitude. Mr. Bott did an amazing job for both middle school and high school choir to express their talents and emotions through singing.
AISG is a school full of opportunities ranging from academics to artistic activities, and the AISG school orchestra/choir concert is not an event to skip. Every year, there are more talented people from all around the world joining the orchestra symphony or choir. The concert itself is free and offers a range of music from the classical era to modern pop. Come and join the next concert to support your Rams!
