This is the second year for AISG to have the APAC Table Tennis team. Last year, there were only a few members in the team having three girls to rotate around and play both doubles and singles. However, our AISG team still brought medals home, which resulted with a satisfying record even with such a small team. The team is passionate about their work and effort and is looking forward to APAC this year.
Senior Jadon Huang is the captain of the team this year. He takes his role as a captain seriously and noticed that a lot of responsibility follows with it. He thinks the primary role of being the captain is making sure communication between the coach and the team is going well. In addition, if instructions are provided, he needs to check whether they are clear to everyone to avoid any misunderstandings between the coach and the team. Jadon believes that the game against the Clifford school (CIS) built confidence in the team to play at APAC. Due to the short match, the team figured out what’s going well and what areas they need to improve on.
Jadon also believes that the warmups that take place during practices are helpful for the team during games. “We train with the professional local coach and the practice routine generally deals with consistency. For instance, backhand drive and footwork is what we mostly and always work on. We need to locate ourselves well and travel fast. Now, we’ve been focusing on serves and receives dealing with short balls.” Jadon mentioned that the team is looking forward to APAC and is feeling confident about heading to APAC.
