The Last Jedi: Better Than The Force Awakens?

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the 8th installment of the Star Wars franchise. Written and directed by Rian Johnson, the film was released on December 15 of 2017 in the United States.

The film brings back both main and side characters, with a few new additions to the cast. New recruits include Laura Dern as Vice Admiral Holdo and Kelly Marie Tran as Rose Tico.

I would recommend watching The Force Awakens first, considering both its preceding story and the fact that it’s also a well-made movie. If The Last Jedi is your entry into the Star Wars universe, it will seem confusing and the concepts may escape you.

Now beginning with the action review: In my opinion, The Last Jedi is a decent film, and here are the reasons why:

The plot of the movie continues where The Force Awakens left off: Rey is training with Luke while the Resistance continues to battle the First Order. The movie has a very predictable plot, however, the story can still surprise the audience in some regard, without spoiling the movie. Though the story isn’t too exciting, the execution of the tale from a galaxy from far far away is beautiful and exciting, however, some parts of the story were rather pointless and dragged the pace of the film. This is a problem when the plot contains too many different storylines and everyone needs something to do, so not all their adventures are equal in quality.

When speaking of Star Wars, you can’t leave out space battles, and the space battles in this film are top notch, with awesome spectacles and amazing visuals. Fans interested in some cool lightsaber and force action won’t be disappointed.

The characters in the film are also quite charming and charismatic, the main cast is especially entertaining, and most of the characters’ actions are realistic and most of their interactions are enjoyable as well though some of the side characters don’t serve much of a purpose and their actions are rather questionable. Their actions are sometimes completely out of character and seemed to only be there to advance the plot.

I would give The Last Jedi a 7.5/10 because it was an entertaining movie, but the predictable plot dragged on and questionable character choices reduced my enjoyment of the film. Personally, I prefer The Force Awakens more as a movie altogether. But that’s just my opinion, and I am interested to see what everyone else thinks, so leave a comment below!
