“Although there is a barrier in language we still able to interact and have fun,” says sophomore Gabriel Kim on this year’s 2nd GIN Trip to the Girls’ Local School in Shaoguan, China. Shaoguan is a small city located up north in the Guangdong Province, bordering Hunnan to the North, and Jiangxi in the South. AISG’s Global Issues Network community service group takes trips twice a year to the local school to teach female students some English. This year the GIN group left on March 23rd for the trip and returned the following day from their educational experience in Shaoguan.

Gabriel Kim described the trip as “fun” and “interesting.” He continued by saying “They aren’t shy, which makes it very fun. It is a fun experience for us as well because teaching English is actually pretty hard. For the students, it’s also very engaging because they don’t have many opportunities to speak to others in English. This was my first year going on the trip, and I really enjoyed it.”

The trip began with a welcoming, the local students prepared a warm welcome for the GIN Group.

The official learning experience started off with Ice Breakers, which was followed by fun games and activities planned by our students. They played active games as well as memory games, all of which were in English.

This trip’s purpose was to follow up with the students and continue teaching schoolgirls in Shaoguan English. With the great turn out from this trip, GIN successfully came back from another memorable experience.
