Habitat for Humanity Build Trip in Conghua

On March 17, 2018, AISG’s community service group Habitat for Humanity left Guangzhou to goto Conghua. After the group went on a car ride of about 3 hours,  HFH supervisors greeted the team and introduced the history of Habitat for Humanity. After the explanation, the group began to work right away.

Each year, Habitat for Humanity, one of the biggest community service groups in AISG, has two Build trips: one in November and the other one in March. This year, both trips were in Conghua, a district located in the center of Guangdong province. The mission of March’s Habitat trip was to use wheelbarrows to transport bricks and soil to the construction site from its origin. Doing this work helped the local construction workers in Conghua to easily approach the equipments and resources they need.

The allocation of resources through manual labor continued for three days. After three days of hard labor, the students were exhausted and their bodies were sore. Brandon Lee, a sophomore, participated in March’s HFH Build trip which was his second one. He said, “The work of carrying the wheelbarrow, moving bricks and soil, and breathing the dust in the construction site were all grueling both mentally and physically; however, after I finished the work and saw the neat pile of bricks and soil, I knew the work I have done was meaningful.”

The next Habitat Build trip happens in November, 2018. People who are not members of Habitat for Humanity can also go on the trip (if there are spots left). In the upcoming school event, International Day at Ersha, HFH will sell items and have games for fundraising.
