A Woman Shooter at the YouTube Headquarters?

• Bookmarks: 351469

On April 3rd, 2018, a woman named Nasim Najafi Aghdam entered the parking garage at the YouTube headquarters in San Bruno, California and opened fire. She wounded 3 people before fatally shooting herself. It is believed that Aghdam was upset about the amount of censoring YouTube had begun with channels and videos. She herself had a YouTube channel and may have been upset over how some of her videos were becoming demonetized, meaning she was not earning money from them because of their content. She also could have been upset over how her videos were being filtered within the site, meaning she may not have been getting as many views as before. It is believed that because of these changes from YouTube, she wanted some form of revenge and was motivated by these changes. It is quite rare that a woman is the perpetrator of a public shooting and it is statistically seen that women are far less violent than men. About 8 percent of firearm homicides are committed by women, whereas 40 percent of poisonings are done by women. This shooting was nowhere near as tragic as the Stoneman Douglas school shooting as there was only one fatality instead of seventeen, but this shooting is definitely a rare one as the perpetrator was a female. This shooting is just another one more statistic to add to the United States’ list of shootings, and it is definitely a tragedy.
