Every year, AISG grade 10 students are required to do a speech on a research topic of their own choice. The speeches are presented throughout the course of a week and each speech needs to be within the time limit of 4-8 minutes, and there is a Q&A section for the audience to ask questions after. Speech topic ranges from the impact of social media on society to the positive social impacts of the British rule in India.  7 students will be chosen out of the grade to deliver their speech at the Garden Hotel on May 10th. This year, the sophomores that were chosen were Brandon L, Jennifer Y, Daniel P, Khushboo D, Ben L, Eddie K, and Miku M.

This project gave the sophomores an opportunity to learn more about different historical events. Elsie Z said “this is an opportunity for us to learn and gain an insight of historical events in the last few centuries,” adding that “it helped me learn that many of these events are linked closely to one another.” Sophie M, another sophomore commented that it’s “interesting and fun to watch other people’s speeches” and it also allowed her to gain knowledge of more historical events.

Not only did this project provide an opportunity for sophomores to learn more about historical events, it has also helped prepare the students well for IB. Junior Maggie M. commented that the project was helpful as it helped improve her research skills, public speaking skills, and her time management. “All of those really helped me get ready for the IB program.” Another junior, Meenu M, said that “the speech last year helped prepare me for IB as the presentation style were more formal and professional comparing to the ones we did before and the format is similar to an FOA.”

As a part of the grade 10 history syllabus for the last few years, “The Way I See It” project has given the sophomores a chance to explore and learn about a variety of historical events and it also trains them for the IB program which many of them will be taking part in over the next two years.
