Javin L, the only candidate running for treasurer, gave the first speech. He grabbed the attention of the audiences at the introduction by saying “Money, money, money, money, money. Bring to the end, I like money. Money is my favorite thing…”. Throughout his speech, he demonstrated his ability as the treasurer and his capability of managing money wisely. He told the audiences to imagine the situation where StuCo being bankrupt, and said: “If StuCo somehow goes bankrupt, we can fight our way back, and keep on fighting”. He then confidently concluded his speech by saying, “Me being your treasurer, money is nothing to worry about. I work like magic. My name is Javin [L], and I will be making StuCo money save in”.

This was Sherry K’s third year of running for secretary. She proved her potential and ability by saying, “Last year, I continued using this method [being organized and prepared], and our council was really successful. We also got an extreme amount of profit”. Since she was elected as the secretary, the group atmosphere, as well as the student council’s financial situation has improved. This is due to her outstanding organization skills and devotion to the group. The dynamic speech with frequent gestures resembling a cheerleader’s performance registered the candidate’s positive energy to the audiences. By the end of the speech, she danced to a famous K-pop song call “Pick Me”, and received warm applause.

Among all the speeches given by the candidates, the most memorable and powerful one was the “Bubble Tea Speech” by Meenal S. Meenal’s loyalty for Chinese bubble tea is already known to many of her peers. Her devotion to bubble tea allowed her to demonstrate the capability as the Vice President as well. She said, “And as much the passion and eagerness that I have toward that one drink, I also, like many of you, have the passion and eager[ness] to change”. Her humorous yet emphatic speech appealed to the many students and teachers in the room. Meenal finished her speech by saying ” I got you like GongCha. Student Council is like us. It’s about me and you. So vote for Meenu to represent you.” After the speech, the crowd was shouting “you deserve bubble tea” and “go Meenu” for candidate and her fabulous speech.
