Welcome to Muse: AISG’s Creative Writing Club

• Bookmarks: 371229

Every Thursday afternoon, AISG’s creative writing club Muse meets in Ms. Barga’s classroom 317.

Emily A., the 2018-2019 club coordinator, began every class with a prompt or small activity. During the first class, she displayed a black-and-white clocktower photograph, setting it as an “inspiration” for our prompt. After 15 minutes, a few class members shared what they wrote. Some people wrote about apocalypse, others wrote about another universe. In such limited time, you could easily discover each person’s writing style and learn something new from their talents.

During the next class, every person had to pick their favored genre and continue a story written by the rest of the class using their own genre. One story took a major turn from end-of-the-world scenario to a pizza party. Before club period ended, the creative writing members each placed a vote on their new club name. The results have come down to the name “MUSE.”

“I think the key thing that makes our creative writing different than other ones is that it’s more of a community. It is more of a ‘we all work together to help each other out.’ No one ever has to truly work by themselves because we’re always here to support each other and to help each other through whatever we’re writing. I think it’s our teamwork that sets us apart from any other creative writing club I’ve been in,” says Emily A., the creative writing club coordinator.

Muse will also be the name of the creative writing club’s website, which is set to be launched soon. Each member (based on personal choice) will select a few pieces to post onto Muse and the site will be available to all AISG students. If you haven’t signed up for creative writing club yet, the opportunity is still open for anyone. And if writing just isn’t your thing, keep in mind that Muse will be launching soon and incredible pieces are on the way.
