Bring on the Hoops!

Basketball season has started! This year, both the boys and girls basketball teams have many changes from the previous year. From the results of the last APAC basketball tournament, with boys coming in 5th place, and girls in 2nd place, both teams are aiming to improve and work hard.

Former players Andrew R., Elom K., and Alonzo H. have either graduated or, sadly, moved on to a new school, leaving this year’s boys team very young. 17 boys went to tryouts for this season, however, only 12 was able to make the team, as the coach wanted to make early cuts to prepare for upcoming games and tournaments. This year, some freshmen who are new to the boys team including Alex T., Evan T., Jacky L., and Daniel K. In addition, two sophomores, Jason P. and Andy C., have joined the team this year, along with returning sophomore Tyler K. Other returning players from last year’s team include Eagle C., Javin L., Sameer S., Kevin L., and Gabriel K. Senior Eagle C., stated that “even though are team has many new players and are a small team compared to previous years, [he thinks] that with hard work and commitment, the team will be successful this season.”

On the other hand, the girl’s basketball team has also lost a few experienced players from last year. Last year’s seniors Nina S. and Tiffany C. has sadly graduated and left the team, along with Leyla S. and Yihsi H. who has moved to different schools. Although a few students have left the team, we still have a lot of returning players from last year. However, new freshmen Bobo L. and Sabrina C. has joined the team this year. Senior Becky R. commented that ” [she thinks] we will do well. We will continue to work hard and trust the system. We have a good core group returning and some new players that will help us fill some holes.” As we are a young and unexperienced team, all the players are working harder to improve and prepare for the upcoming season.
