How would you feel if you saw Ms. Martin-Bauer wearing a Nike jersey and striped Adidas leggings to school? Often, there are teachers who don’t seem to pay much attention to their clothing choices. They choose the clothes they wear for the sake of comfort and convenience instead of fashion. However, fashion is actually a very important part of self-expression. It can reflect everything from the most insignificant to the most prominent traits of an individual such as his or her personality, cultural background, or even social behavior.
Teachers’ fashion and makeup styles differ from teacher to teacher. Some prefer the classic office look while others prefer casual, stylish outfits. For example, Ms. DeMers, the Middle School Counselor and Health Teacher, has a trendy fashion style. Her leopard belt from Zara stands above the black dress and adds a sophisticated and playful touch of flair to her outfit. The leopard pattern is the biggest fashion trend in Fall 2018 and it is today’s newest neutral. There are a number of fashion blogs and articles that offer guidance and tips regarding how to style animal print clothing. The mustard yellow cardigan perfectly complements her leopard belt. The contrast between the black dress, mustard-yellow cardigan, and cobalt manicure creates a versatile and modish personal style.
High school English teacher Ms. Barga claims that she “[admires Ms. DeMers’s] New York sensibility, and how colorful and coordinated her outfits always are.”
Ms. Barga is also well-known for her unique style. She enjoys wearing blue, grey, and other clothes with neutral tones. Her go-to fashion item is a pair of lace-up sandals and her Chinese qipao. Ms. Barga likes to wear lace-up sandals because of her childhood interest in Greek and Roman mythology. She said, “I’ve loved Greek and Roman myths since I was small, and I think lace-up sandals remind me of the illustrations from those ‘Myths for Kids’ books I used to check out from the elementary school library.” Regarding her Chinese qipao-style shirt, she stated that “Chinese traditional styles are beautiful,” adding that she believes wearing it allows her to “wear something reminiscent of local culture.”
Senior Maria E. stated, “Ms. Barga’s style is very elegant and chic. Many times I’ve noticed pieces of clothing I’d love to wear, but never had the chance to.” Another senior, Regina K., also shared that she “personally really [likes] what Ms. Barga wears. It’s appropriate for the season and simple but elegant and it fits on her very well. I realized her shoes match her outfit all the time.”
High school economics teacher Ms. Partee is another fashion icon in AISG. Her fashion, especially the jewelry, has always caught my attention. Nowadays, having a collection of personal and timeless jewelry is considered very chic and sartorially advisable. Ms. Partee’s chunky sleek gold hoops in the photograph above make her fashion distinctive and stylish.
“I like Ms. Partee’s style; it’s very trendy, unique, and original!” stated Amanda C., a senior.
Another senior named Sherry K. exclaimed, “Ms. Partee’s fashion is one of the most unique and interesting fashion that I have never seen before. For example, as shown in the image above, Ms. Partee is wearing huge earrings. Not only that, her eyeshadow color matches the color of the earring, which makes her entire fashion and makeup stand out. I personally like bright colored clothes, so I love Ms. Partee’s fashion!”
Ms. Lindsay’s all-black fashion lends itself nicely to a classy office look. However, she created a fresh alternative to the classic image through the various the textures of her clothing pieces. Ms. Lindsay blended cotton, leather, and knit to create a chic, urban look.
