Losing weight is what everyone desires: it makes you feel good about your body, fit in your pretty but small clothes, and feel confident. Personally, I believe that people approach the whole “losing weight and looking good” issue with the wrong mindset. In this article, I will be talking about how to lose weight without getting stressed at all.

When people think about losing weight, they imagine arduous dieting plans, salads with chicken breasts every meal, and intense 3-hour workout sessions. These are completely false! Unless you are preparing for a muscle mania tournament, those are all misconceptions!

Weight is directly related to calories. Every human has a Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) which is a measure of how many calories one’s body burns per day. Losing and gaining fat is simple. If you exceed your TDEE, you gain weight; if you eat less than your TDEE, you lose weight. The TDEE is different for everyone as the measure is based on one’s height, age and weight. The TDEE Calculator will tell you your ideal maintenance calories per day. If you eat the same amount as your maintenance calories per day, you will neither gain or lose fat and maintain your weight. A simple method to calculate the TDEE is to multiply 13 to your body weight.

So, the real question is, how do I lose weight? Simple. Just consume fewer calories than your daily TDEE! The most ideal thing to do is to consume 500 fewer kilocalories than your daily TDEE. In order to do this, you should eat healthy foods and vegetables with fewer calories compared to your meals before. However, there will be days where you eat junk foods with your friends and exceed your TDEE. So what now? You exercise and burn those calories! The ultimate goal is to always have a 500 kcal deficit between your TDEE and your daily calories consumed.
