Why is Nobody Participating in the Senior Dance?

The senior dance has been a long-lasting AISG tradition where the seniors are encouraged to plan, organize and perform a dance number in front of the entire school. It is usually performed last during our school’s annual talent show. This year, it is up to our senior class to hopefully create the best dance this school has seen by far, but it appears as though seniors are dreadful rather than excited about the prospects of the dance. In fact, this year, barely half of the grade has shown up for after-school senior dance practices. Some seniors cannot attend because they have made previous reservations or are involved in seasonal sports practices, while others are too lazy to stay after 3 o’clock. The senior dance is meant to be an opportunity for seniors to gather and have fun with the classmates whom they will soon leave, so why do some seniors refuse to participate?

Senior Maggie M. has shared her view on the topic: “Our senior dance is horrible. Nobody is practicing because either everyone is busy or they’re just lazy. Our grade is simply not school-spirited enough, it doesn’t care about these things”. Jason W. is another senior who shares Maggie M.’s opinion: “It’s a really good opportunity for seniors to come together and do something for the last time, but it’s unfortunate that most of the seniors don’t appreciate this opportunity”. Additionally, Stanley W. commented, “I think that the senior dance is a good tradition, but i’m disappointed that a lot of people are not willing to go to practices even if they can. I feel bad for those who put in the effort to organize it”.

Hopefully, more seniors will learn the dance on their own or at least participate in the last practices leading up to the dance, so that the performance becomes decent rather than an embarrassment for the senior class.
