What Are The Seniors Planning This Summer?

• Bookmarks: 361684

Surely seniors have been looking forward to their summers, a time of relaxation after completing their IB exams. So, what have they been planning?

As seniors are graduating, some families might decide to leave Guangzhou at the same time as their kids so they can accompany them to wherever they decide to go to university. This obviously does not go for all seniors, but my family, for example, will be departing from Guangzhou soon. Therefore, my family will be spending the first half of the summer packing up our home before heading back to Europe. Other seniors’ families such as Danny K. and Selina K. will also be leaving Guangzhou as they go off to college.

Other seniors have been organizing senior trips with their respective friend groups after their IB exams. Some are staying in Asia, but others have decided to go all out with their travels, such as Stanley W. and his friends, who have been looking forward to a wonderful European trip to Spain. Sameer S.’s friend group will be “going for 2 weeks to Thailand, where [they] will be meeting friends who left the school in 10th grade so it will be an AISG reunion. I’m very excited to not be waking up at 6 am every morning.”

While some students are planning to spend their summer at the beach tanning, others have plans to work. Yes, you understood correctly: I indeed said WORK. After 2 years of this tedious and soul-crushing IB curriculum, some seniors have plans to either do a study program during the summer or take up a summer job. For instance, our beloved senior Vicky J. has plans to work on her Korean and to work at a “convenience store or something.” Sameer S. has been looking forward to learning how to drive this summer. Although this doesn’t strictly categorize as working, there is a lot of studying involved in getting your driving license! Perhaps less excitingly are few Korean students such as Selina K. who have not yet applied to Korean universities because their application deadlines take place during the summer: therefore, they will be to working on their college essays while others relax and soak up the sun! Similarly, senior Danny K. shared that he will be “learning how to cook, how to box and will be also applying to Korean universities.” In fact, I believe most seniors will spend some time this summer learning how to cook basic meals for next year since some will need to get used to living by themselves! Hopefully, no one will be burning their kitchens down…

It seems that most seniors will be quite busy this summer! I wish them all a good summer and wish them good luck in taking their initial step towards their future.
