Final Exams in Classrooms

• Bookmarks: 532773

Students will be taking final exams in different classrooms from June 6 to 12. In previous years, final exams took place in the gym, or the theater.

The decision to make students take final exams in the theater was made last semester and this caused many to be furious. They constantly complained about the change in venue of final exams. They were complaining mainly about the dark lighting and small tables (read Sohum’s article for more information here). However, after exams last semester, students expressed that the venue turned out to be fine. Although some were dissatisfied, the majority did not express further complaints

Mr. Tragert commented that “[taking final exams in the theater] solved the problem [they] were looking to solve, but it created more problems that [they] didn’t anticipate.” Some major problems included going to the bathroom in the middle of exams and limited amount of space given to each student. Aside from students’ discomfort, there were several other technical problems associated with continuing to take final exam in the theater. For example, as there are many events happening in the theater towards the end of the year, and they might overlap with the final exam schedules.

In order to resolve the problems that arose in the process, Mr. Tragert says that he “[listened] to students’ and teachers’ feedback.” With the feedback, they decided to change the location of final exams to regular classrooms. More specific information about exam times, classrooms and test-taking rules are included in Mr. Tragert’s email.

There will be supervisors and staffs monitoring in the hallway during exams to reduce risk of academic dishonesty. Mr. Tragert also stated that they trust the student body to not cheat, and that “our school operates not assuming the worst students.”

Lastly, Mr. Tragert “encourages people to send him feedback” as comments allow staffs to make decisions for better purposes.Comment down below on what you think about taking exams in regular classrooms.
