The controversial debate of comfort vs. fashion seems to never die down. Although advocates supporting comfort may wholeheartedly believe in their comfortable clothing, they cannot deny that there are a few fashionable accessories that one must have—even if one is a man. After intense research, we came up with three accessories every guy should have:
Bow Ties
You might be thinking that bowties are a thing of the past, that it’s absolutely absurd that the bowtie should become more and more popular. Circling back to the debate of comfort and ease over fashion, the bowtie is rather hard to tie in comparison with the standard long neck tie. In addition, as bowties have been stereotypically labelled for events like prom or the academy awards, the bowtie has started to seem extravagant and unnecessary.
Whether because of or despite its reputation as showy, the bowtie revival has begun. Globalization and conformity have lead to a uniformity that can be seen on the t-shirts and jeans on almost every guy, but with the rise of hipsters and the desire to stand out, things are looking up for the bowtie. As a sign of the need to stand out from an uniform crowd, the rise of custom tailored clothes has begun and along with the return of dressiness, some men find that the bowtie is more unique than the neck tie. Perhaps the new era of hipsters and the idea of being individual and unique can bring back a surge of classiness.
Glasses/Sunglasses
Many people wear glasses due to their eyesight while others wear them for a functional purpose. Regardless of the purpose, one should always choose a pair that goes well with their face. Suggested by LifeHack, here are several matches:
Square Face Shape
Square face shapes are defined by a broad forehead and strong jawline, proportional in length and width. Oval glasses with bold or dark colors are best for square face shapes, whilst square shapes should be avoided as it adds yet more strong angles.
Heart Face Shape
Defined by a broad forehead that roundsdown into a small chin, those with heart shaped faces usually have high and angled cheekbones. Like those with square face, heart shaped faces suit rounded glasses although light colours are suggested. Top heavy frames will accentuate the disproportional aspects of your face.
Oval Face Shape
The oval face shape is the most versatile, so almost all frame shapes will suit the individual. The only thing to avoid is over sized glasses.
Round Face Shape
Square glasses suit rounded faces the best, as they provide contrast and angles. Small, round frames will have the opposite effect, so attempt to avoid them.
Diamond Face Shape
Wide cheek bones and a narrow forehead suit oval frames, preferably with thick brow lines to balance out the face. Diamond face shapes are the rarest, so embrace the shape!
Fedora Hats
The fedora is a hat that defines a man as classy and debonair as it is most commonly stereotyped with the image of gangsters and individuals such as Frank Sinatra.
The fedora seems to be a relic from the 20s to the 50s, but in truth, the fedora has begun a “revival”. The fedora has been featured in many popular movies, one of these being the Indiana Jones Franchise, which re-popularized it. The fedora isn’t as popular now as it was back in the mid-1970s, but it has slowly begun a revival by becoming incorporated into hipster culture. It is in my greatest hopes that a revival will occur and perhaps one day, it will usurp the throne of the “swaggy snapbacks” and sit atop as the “classy fedora”.
