Man Drowns During Romantic Underwater Proposal

Steven Weber Jr., an American man, died doing a romantic underwater proposal to his girlfriend Kenesha Antoine while they were on vacation in Tanzania.

According to CNN, the couple stayed in an underwater suite at the Manta resort off Pemba Island. On September 19, Weber dived into the water without an oxygen tank with a handwritten letter in his hands. He proposed to Antoine holding the letter outside the bedroom window underwater while Antoine filmed the proposal from inside the bedroom. Unexpectedly, during the proposal, Weber drowned and this became his final farewell.

According to the video shot by Antoine, Weber’s note read: “I can’t hold my breath long enough to tell you everything I love about you. But… everything I love about you; I love more every day!” On the other side of the paper it wrote, “Can you be my wife? Marry me?”

Antoine was heartbroken and said she would marry Weber, but Weber never had the chance to hear the answer. On September 20, Antoine posted on Facebook regarding Weber’s death and writes: “I will find you and marry you in the next lifetime, and the next, and the next, and the next…”

The specific cause of why Weber drowned has not been identified by the media.

Junior Ryan H. said, “I think he should have prepared more carefully about the proposal and brought a source of oxygen with him, but my basic reaction to this event is that he made a poor decision and a stupid mistake.”

In multiple additional short interviews with juniors in AISG, most of their initial reactions were “how did he drown?” and “this is stupid.”

On the other hand, this incident has given the public a warning. No matter how romantic memories can be, they cannot compare with the company one gives in reality. Instead of taking risks to do something shocking and astonishing, it’s better to be able to support, take care of, and be with the one you love.
