Catch the Spirit, We’ve Got Spirit

Beginning from October 28, 2020, AISG’s Executive Council (ExCo) decided to celebrate “Spirit Wednesdays” instead of “Spirit Weeks” to wholly enjoy students’ ram spirit. 

 

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, new measures were implemented by the Guangzhou Bureau of Education to prevent the further spread of the virus and ensure everyone’s safety.

 

One significant change that occurred throughout high school was the adjustments to the schedule, where students were divided by grade levels to physically attend school on designated days. As a result, Wednesday became the only day where students from all grade levels attended school physically, leading to ExCo’s decision to have “Spirit Wednesdays” where members of the AISG community could enjoy each other’s spirit altogether. 

 

Andy H., the president of ExCo, remarked on his decision to celebrate “Spirit Wednesdays,” commenting, “We have to be flexible and adapt to the situation we are currently in.” He added that “As for now, Wednesday is the best day for us to celebrate students’ spirit since everybody could participate together.”

 

Tony P., a sophomore at AISG, highlighted some drawbacks to having “Spirit Wednesdays” instead of “Spirit weeks,” commenting, “Since we have spirit days once a week, I often forget to dress up accordingly on [Wednesdays].” He further commented, “It’s sad how the spiritual mood breaks after one day and doesn’t carry on for the whole week.”

 

As to date, there have been two weeks of “Spirit Wednesdays,” where students had the opportunity to showcase their spirit for the beach day and Halloween day. There will be three more “Spirit Wednesdays” – sports day, Ram’s day, and PJ day – for students and faculty members to enjoy each other’s creative costumes and activities.
