Louis Vuitton’s Restaurant and Cafe: A Modern Masterpiece

• Bookmarks: 662405

On February 15, global fashion brand Louis Vuitton officially opened a new restaurant and cafe for business, Sugablado V and Le Café V. Based in Osaka, Japan, this restaurant and cafe is on the top floor of a chic four-story store. Extending from the restaurant and cafe is a sophisticated cocktail bar and an outdoor terrace. Known to fine diners, the main attraction of Louis Vuitton’s branded restaurant remains the specially tailored menu by Yosuke Suga, who is the famous head chef of Sugablado in Tokyo and protege of 32-Michelin star chef Joel Robuchon.

For the Sugablado V restaurant, seats are limited to few and booking in advance is required due to the high-class selectivity and great demand. Customers can choose to book the private dining room or take a seat in the dining area. The open kitchen design and the warm hues create a fine dining experience like none other.

In regards to the decor of the top floor, it is separated into two distinct designs: the cafe follows an elegant tone and sets a modernized atmosphere, while the restaurant is only available for dining at night and presents a warmer vibe. Japanese designer and creator Tokujin Yoshioka is responsible for such an eye-catching design. As the head designer for Louis Vuitton’s furniture and accessories collection Objets Nomades, Issey Miyake’s “Glass Watch” series, and more projects, Yoshioka incorporated multiple contemporary pieces to make the restaurant/cafe stand out, such as cocoon chairs from the Objets Nomades series. Interior designer Jun Aoki focused on creating a dreamy effect for the cocktail bar, attempting to mimic a ship on the water.

While Louis Vuitton’s first restaurant/cafe opening has amassed attention—especially during the COVID-19 period—the brand is simply joining its fellow fashion competitors in shifting towards the culinary industry, such as Tiffany and Co.’s Blue Box cafe in New York City and Thomas’ Cafe by Burberry in London.
