Hungry for Debate: RAMSMUN I

AISG hosted its first-ever Model United Nations(MUN) conference–RAMSMUN I–from January 29-31, 2021.

With CISSMUN XII’s cancellation- a season two MUN in Shanghai-due to the COVID-19 pandemic, AISG’s MUN leadership team decided to hold its first-ever RAMSMUN I, designed specifically for high school students in AISG. The MUN leadership team’s decision to only focus on high school students in AISG was inevitable, as there were numerous uncertainties with arranging the conference itself, particularly due to the strict COVID-19 protocols.

The most prominent reason behind the MUN team’s decision to hold its RAMSMUN I lied on the secretary generals’ detestation to provide the students with another online conference, following the season one SEOMUN XXIII that was held virtually.

“The planning process was very complicated, but I think it was worth it,” said Alex K., one of the secretary generals of RAMSMUN I. “I am really proud of what our delegates have achieved; hopefully, as we invite other schools in following years, we will have the opportunity to connect with different schools, discuss issues of global significance, and make new friends along the way.”

“This conference has really made me hopeful for the future conferences, and I hope the quality of debate and fun atmosphere of RAMSMUN is something that will be carried out in the future,” added Jami J., another secretary-general of the conference.

All in all, the flexibility of the MUN’s leadership team and sincere support from the students as well as faculties and advisors allowed the conference to succeed despite the numerous predicaments.

MUN is an extra-curricular activity that provides students with a rare opportunity to represent their given countries and relentlessly debate upon the world’s rising issues. The club aims to enable students to develop vital skills in and out of school and become not just students but delegates that debate in favor of their country’s stance.

Founded in 1981, AISG is the first international school in South China, offering an international curriculum to its students. Guided by Western learning values and principles, AISG places great importance on nurturing “future-ready” individuals, even amid the pandemic and hybrid learning.
