Meet the New Kids In Town: Juniors and Senior Edition

This school year, we are welcoming several new juniors and one new senior into our AISG Ram community. Joining a new school as a junior is already challenging due to the start of the IBDP. However, entering as a senior is even more challenging because you’d be changing to a new learning environment in the middle of the program!

Regarding the IB program, Katie P. mentioned that there “wasn’t an IB program in my old school, so it’s kind of a challenge, but I’ll have to get used to it.” Katie previously attended Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School in Canada, and she is now starting her junior year here with us at AISG.

Surprisingly, Katie has attended four other schools before coming to AISG. Upon her first impression, she found that AISG was much bigger than the other schools she has attended. In the future, Katie plans on joining this year’s badminton team during season three sports.

Becca F. is another junior entering AISG this school year. Becca has previously studied in an international school in Shanghai. In regards to AISG’s activities and extracurriculars, Becca remarked: “It is good to have many activities available because it contributes to all of the student’s interests and leads to self-discovery.”

The third junior on this list is Joi S., who previously attended ISA Science City in Guangzhou. Joi noticed that AISG has a “diverse set of activities for every student” and she is looking forward to starting her IB subjects at AISG. Looking at the diverse range of clubs and activities, she plans on joining Model United Nations.

Alicia B. is currently the only new senior here at AISG. Despite only being at AISG for a few weeks, she has already shared her advice to this year’s juniors during the G11 and G12 assembly. Transitioning to a new school in her senior year became more difficult for Alicia since she’s attended schools much smaller than AISG.

Alicia says that, “IB is a curriculum that allows easy transitions because the same content is being taught and learned. I think the Extended Essay was the hardest [part about transitioning] to AISG [because] I was already behind.”

Alicia is planning to join volleyball, basketball and soccer. Alicia also advised new and younger students to use the variety of activities the school offers and, “build your social skills but also step out of your comfort zone.”

These students are only a small sample of this year’s new students. There are a lot more students that were not mentioned in this article. So, if you see new faces walking around the hallways, be sure to greet them!
