On August 24, Sony Pictures revealed a new trailer for the upcoming Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home. This is the third Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) spider-man movie by Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures. The movie will be released on December 17, 2021, making it the last MCU film of 2021 alongside Marvel’s Shang-Chi and Eternals.

The film will continue to cast Tom Holland as Spider-man, Peter Parker, and Zendaya as Michelle, Peter’s girlfriend. Benedict Cumberbach will also be returning to the screen as Dr. Strange, a character originally part of the MCU universe but previously unrelated to the Spider-man movies.

In addition to these returning heroes, the film also reintroduces previous-era villains, including Dr. Ock, played by Alfred Molina, as well as Electro, played by Jamie Foxx.

According to the trailer, following Spider-man’s identity being exposed to the world by Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio in the previous movie, Spider-man: Far from Home, Peter (aka Spiderman)’s life has been ruined by broadcasters and his colleagues as they accuse him of creating havoc back in London. Peter decides to visit Dr. Strange to “solve” the issue by altering reality, but things go wrong. The attempt to alter reality disrupted the whole timeline, introducing villains from the past-era Spider-man series.

Previous Spider-Man films in the MCU have been well received both by critics and box-office earnings. The first movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), ranks 16th highest-grossing superhero film and grossed 8.8 million dollars worldwide. It is also rated 7.4 out of 10 by IMDb critics. The second movie, Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), ranks 10th highest-grossing superhero film with 11.3 million-dollar worldwide gross and a high rating by IMDb rating of 7.5 out of 10.

Spider-Man fans worldwide are excited about the new releases including some of our AISG students!

“It was exciting and fun to see the new trailers but I am hoping to see the return of old Spider-Man actors in the old films,” said Sunny H (Currently senior).

“I think the new trailer is so cool. There are so many sneak peeks and possibly easter eggs in the trailer. I’m so excited to see the fight and the plot with peter parkers identity being revealed in the last movie.” said Christine L (freshmen).
