On October 29, student-run social events club Pulse hosted their first event of the year: Pulse’s Halloween Movie Night. The event featured the movie Coraline, a Halloween classic, while 60+ high school students and other staff attendees were seated on the grand staircase at the plaza. In addition to the movie, PTA and Pulse teacher coordinator Mr. Padden provided popcorn as well as food and drinks sold by the Business Club.

Before the event started, club members began decorating the venue with Halloween decorations from storage rooms. At one end near the A building, there was a table filled with mini pumpkins and gory masks, while the other table near the theater building was decorated with large spiders and silky webs. Surrounding the large outdoor screen provided by school services, Pulse’s dedicated venue manager Isadora B. instructed the team to place skeletons at the side as well as a bloodied handprint backdrop for the photo booth.

The event began promptly at 5:30 p.m. After delivering a brief introduction to the event as well as event rules, Mr. Padden and student coordinator Shirley W. conducted a surprise Starbucks gift card giveaway, allowing two lucky students to receive 200 RMB gift cards. Soon enough, the movie began. The night as a whole can be acknowledged as a relaxing experience where students could spend time with their fellow peers and friends, while also celebrating Halloween.

“It had a really comfy and cozy atmosphere, which was the perfect way to end a long week,” said Vikisha G., a member of Pulse.

Another senior attendee, Kaisa F., mentioned that the event was “a fun night where [she] could spend time with friends and have food and drinks. It also felt like Halloween because of the decorations.”

Generally, the consensus seems to be that the event was a good chance for its 60+ attendees to get together and de-stress during spooky season.
