Quiz Bowl is a game in which two teams would compete against in other head-to-head to answer questions from a various range of knowledge. Topics such as science, fine arts, literature, history, current events, sports, popular culture, and more! The Quiz Bowl team in AISG seems to have all those subjects covered in terms of knowledge, as they ended 2021 with more than one win on their belts!

In November 2021, the team —made up of high school students— participated in three competitions. The Quiz Bowl team competed against various schools such as Shenzhen International School (SIS), Vanke Meisha Academy, and The Experimental School Affiliated with Zhuhai No. 1 High School.

The tournaments were hosted in Guangzhou, the second and third competitions took place on the same day. The first competition was the Fall Friendly, taking place on November 13th with SIS as the competitor. The second and third tournament, the Fall History Bee and Bowl, was scheduled on November 27th against Vanke Meisha Academy and Zhuhai’s No. 1 High School.

The results of the tourneys were surely one to celebrate, with AISG’s group A, consisting of Jet C., William B., Martin W., and Dachan S., took home 1st place in the Fall Friendly against SIS. In the Fall History Bowl, AISG’s group A once again took first place with 280 points, and AISG’s group B took the runner-up spot with 200 points.

In the History Bee, students on the quiz bowl team surprised us even more by once again winning first place! William B., a senior from the Varsity team, took first place and the champion title. While Alex M., a freshman from the Junior Varsity team, did the same.

“Honestly the entire thing was super surreal, I went to the History Bee fully expecting to go against super tough competition; which I did, of course. But I did not expect myself to actually win the title of championship! I’m just super pumped and proud of myself because I know that I worked hard and that it all paid of in the end!” said Alex M.

Partee, who is the Quiz Bowl teams’ supervisor, decided to celebrate their wins by throwing what she calls a “nerd party” to allow the team members to let loose and feel proud of their accomplishments.

Max N., a junior at AISG said, “To be honest, I know that I’m not really that big of an asset to the team, because my knowledge on all the subjects are more limited compared to the other members. But despite all of that everyone still accepted me as part of the team and allowed me to celebrate with them at the ‘Nerd Party’. Which made me feel super accepted and stuff. All in all, I’m super glad I decided to join, because the entire team is super connected and respectful with one another! Definitely going to join next year.”

In conclusion, this year was the Quiz Bowl team’s year. They have yet to be defeated.
