Bruce Willis Stepping Away From 40-Year Acting Career Due To Medical Diagnosis

Bruce Willis is a well-known actor who has been working in the film industry from as early as the 1980s to as recent as 2022. However, the actor is now “stepping away” from acting due to his diagnosis of aphasia.

Aphasia is a disorder that affects cognitive abilities such as reading, listening, speaking, and writing. This specifically affects Willis’s abilities to learn and retain scripts for movies and tv shows.

This condition has also gotten in the way of Willis’s day-to-day life. Before Willis’s family went public with his condition, he was seen leaving a drug store without a mask and was confronted because of it.

When questioned as to why he was without a mask, Willis simply stated that it had slipped his mind. It was this incident that pushed the Willis family to go public with his condition.

“A well-known actor like Bruce Willis being affected by it will definitely cause a lot more awareness on the disease. It is also possible that adjustments may be made to the film industry in order to be more inclusive of people who are affected by diseases as such and not have to renounce their careers because of it,” stated Christine B., a sophomore at AISG.

His current wife, Emma Heming, and his Ex-Wife, Demi Moore, posted to Instagram that Bruce Willis has been diagnosed and as a result of his condition worsening he is stepping away from acting. They told Willis’s fans that it is very important to him that he spend as much time with his family as he can.

It seems that the Willis family has been trying their best to keep news of Willis’ condition from spreading. However, it was becoming increasingly more difficult for the actor to learn his lines and hide this from the camera.

Willis’s amazing forty-year long acting career is filled with many favorites and classics. From Pulp Fiction and Die Hard to less well-known gems such as RED and The Fifth Element.

“Even though I’m not a huge fan, I’m sure that his departure from acting will spur many of his fans to reflect on both his legacy and impact in acting. It is a sad departure but it can spark conversations and awareness over the condition,” stated Gwyinne G., a junior at AISG.

Many of his loyal fans are devastated to see him leave acting but wish him well as he spends time with his family. Bruce Willis has always played such herded and tough characters that it is easy to forget that he too is human and issues like this can affect him as well.
