Wednesday 12th October, AISG’s volleyball team attended the GISSAC Volleyball tournament. An annual league tournament used to figure out the final placements for each team participating.
Due to unfortunate circumstances, a school dropped out of the tournament last minute, so the AISG girls were asked if they were willing to split their team into two separate ones.
The girls’ team was divided into team AISG 1 and team AISG 2.
First game of the tournament determined what division the team would be going into. Winners would go to into the Cup Division while the losing team would go into the Plate Division.
After a suspenseful lucky draw deciding who was playing, both AISG teams were picked to battle it out for their first game.
The game was long and intense, teammates now on opposite sides of the court. The points were close but ended with AISG 1 winning that game putting them in the Cup Division.
Despite this, the teams went on to win both Divisions, with not a single set lost. Bringing home two trophies this year.
Gwynnie G. captain of the girls’ volleyball team said “WE ABSOLUTELY CRUSHED IT AT THE GISSA TOURNAMENT. WE TOOK HOME ALL THEIR SILVERWARE. ATE FROM THEIR PLATES AND DRANK FROM THEIR CUPS.”
While the boys did not split into separate teams they were able to secure first place in the Cup Division.
Captain Richie L. gave huge praise to their libero Carson A. for putting in his all to secure that number one spot.
“My favourite moment from that game is the mega rally where Carson received every single one of UISG’s hits and we eventually scored in that long rally,” Richie said.
The team felt as though it was the greatest, they had played all season. Richie L. was extremely proud of how his team performed and hopes they continue this moving forward.
“I think we played our best games this season on Wednesday. The most important reason of why we performed so well was our defense and mentality. We stayed humble, energetic, and ready to cover any tips, receive any serves,” Richie said.
Both teams are extremely happy with the outcome of this tournament and the coaches are excited for future games if the team continue to play this well.
