Tokyo’s 2020 Vision for the Olympic Games

The Tokyo Olympics summer games, to be hosted in 2020 might be the “most innovative” Olympic Games in history.

The quadrennial Olympics has had a proud history of showcasing the world’s latest technologies, such as the 1936 Berlin Olympics with the first-ever televised sporting event, and the previous Tokyo Olympics debuting the shinkansen, also known as the world’s first high-speed “bullet train”, in 1964.

Japan has plans to uphold this tradition, where it has already shown off some of the greatest innovations of the 21st century. If you thought China’s use of weather controlling rockets were cool, Japan has much more to offer!

Japan’s plans include the extensive use of robots, that will help any guests flying in from around the world with translation, transportation, and directions. In addition, a Japanese company will be launching project “Sky Canvas”, which is a show of artificial meteor showers for what will be a spectacular opening ceremony.

The list goes on, with super-speed maglev trains, instant language translation, autonomous taxis, 8K TV broadcasts, 5G wireless connections, and more.

Furthermore, The 2020 summer games will bring a total of 5 additional sports, including baseball and softball, both hugely popular in Japan. The International Olympic Committee has also approved the controversial introduction of new youth-oriented sports such as skateboarding and surfing.

At the Rio Olympics closing ceremonies, an entertaining video featuring many of Japan’s cultural icons was streamed worldwide, while also presenting Japan’s Prime Minister dressed up as Mario.

Tokyo is in the process of making preparations for what it says will be the most innovative Olympic Games in history. Interestingly, the Japanese cartoon Akira predicted the Tokyo 2020 games 30 years ago. Let’s just hope its wrong about World War 3 and a neo-Tokyo in replacement of a destroyed Tokyo.
