Reported on May 21, 2016 by AFP, China is said to be cutting off relations with Taiwan if new president Tsai Ing-wen does not support the “one China” idea the China state media said on Saturday.

During Tsai’s inauguration speech, she announced that Taiwan will mantain a healthy and positive relationship with China but still remained skeptical about Beijing’s call on “one China” concept.

After civil war in 1949, Taiwan has been self ruling the country but it never formally proclaim independency from mainland China so Beijing is still seeking for chances to reunify Taiwan.

After Tsai took office, Beijing remains highly suspicious on Tsai who is a member of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), which is known for being very independent. Beijing warned Tsai about consequences of trying to breakaway from China.

In 1992, a meeting was held between China and the KMT. This meeting lead to a tactic agreement which stated that there is only “one China,” but each side can interpret this ideology their own way. However, Tsai and the DPP does not acknowledge the treaty. In her speech she did recognize the existence of the tactic agreement, but did not openly approve the conclusion of the agreement.
