An exciting new chapter begins in Model UN at AISG as 19 elite students, who were hand picked by officers – Sabrina Chen, Karan Vasdev, Jiwon Lee, Haejin Lee and Kenny Lau – as well as advisors Mr Parker and Mr Duncan, have their first official meeting on the 20th of September. SEOMUN (Seoul Model United Nations), the earlier of the two MUN conferences that AISG is a part of, is coming up in less than two and a half months.

As the first SEOMUN meeting approaches, Jiwon Lee, one of the MUN officers at AISG, expresses that “after being given the responsibility of choosing the delegates,” he thinks that they “have chosen the right people for MUN.” SEOMUN delegate Jimmy Park says that he “hope[s] for a fruitful debate” in the upcoming MUN conference and he believes that “everyone can learn a lot from such a great conference.” Model United Nations is not only a way to improve debate skills and public speaking but also an opportunity to become a better global citizen and have fun.

SFS hosts SEOMUN this year, but the conference takes place off the school campus. With over 500 students from around the world arriving for the 19th year of Seoul MUN, chairs, students, and advisors are anticipating another productive debate. Inspired by the intolerance and inequity toward which the world seems to be moving, SEOMUN Secretariat set “Embracing Diversity” as the theme of SEOMUN XIX. This simulation of the United Nations has gained a reputation for being one of the best conferences in East Asia and delegates from AISG are already preparing for it. The second conference, BEIMUN (in Beijing), is midway through the next semester, in early March.
