A note from the author, written a few days after the story’s original publication: I have received feedback on certain wording decisions I have made. I realize this might have offended people, and I am truly sorry. It was not my intention. I’d like to apologize to the Muslim population especially. I actually don’t mean to generalize people. I have made certain edits to my wording, which hopefully better portray my thoughts.
German chancellor Angela Merkel’s popularity dropped to a new low this month, when crowds of PEGIDA—“Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the Occident”—demonstrators gathered to express outrage over Merkel’s open-border policies. While many EU nations have moved to constrain this mass movement of people, Angela Merkel loses support by refusing to set an upper limit to migrants.
According to a recent poll, 45% of Germans don’t believe their country can overcome this situation under Merkel. And I agree, this situation currently is not managed very well. There are thousands of migrants waiting for registration in Germany every day, and there is hardly enough housing for all of them.
And its only going to get worse for everyone, as the German winter has not even begun.
Germany, the popular destination for refugees, has taken over 200,000 people in just September. These refugees come from politically unstable countries such as Syria, Afghanistan, Eritrea, and Libya. Many of them come to escape war and persecution, but they have also been accused of coming to Europe for economic purposes only.
Around 1/3 of migrants in Germany who claim to be Syrians turn out to not be from Syria. These fake asylum applicants claiming refugee benefits should only be deported. Germany may start to use military aircraft to deport these people.
Opposition to pro-refugee laws are rising, albeit slowly. Just one month ago Hungary was criticized by other nations for its tight border laws. Now, other countries are following in Hungary’s footsteps. Switzerland just passed a vote in favor of restricting immigration. You might say the public is less suppressed on the grounds of political correctness than the government.
Merkel’s increasing pressure under this crisis has forced her to come up with different answers. Only a few weeks ago she strongly opposed Turkey joining the European Union. Now, she’s offering Turkey earlier entry to the EU in exchange for Turkey signing the readmission agreement. Accepting this deal would mean Turkey will take in the immigrants rejected by Europe, but Turkish citizens would be granted visa-free travel in the European Union.
Wait, so Angela Merkel is trying to remove illegal Muslims from Germany by inviting more Muslims to the rest of Europe? Perhaps the so-called “extreme” PEGIDA has a point; Merkel is Europe’s most dangerous woman.
Thousands are still entering Europe everyday, and there is still no clear solution. One thing is certain: There are too many refugees. Some claim this has nothing to do with xenophobia, but allowing millions of Muslims into Europe endangers European culture, and frightens many. Many European horror-stories revolve around the migrants raping locals, which unfortunately leads to a growing hate/fear towards the Muslim population.
Vladimir Putin, president of Russia, addressed the issue of culture back in February 2013: “In Russia live Russians. Any minority, from anywhere, if it wants to live in Russia, to work and eat in Russia, should speak Russian, and should respect the Russian laws. If they prefer Sharia Law, and live the life of Muslims then we advise them to go to those places where that’s the state law. Russia does not need Muslim minorities. Minorities need Russia, and we will not grant them special privileges, or try to change our laws to fit their desires, no matter how loud they yell ‘discrimination’. We will not tolerate disrespect of our Russian culture. We had better learn from the suicides of America, England, Holland and France, if we are to survive as a nation. The Muslims are taking over those countries and they will not take over Russia. The Russian customs and traditions are not compatible with the lack of culture or the primitive ways of Sharia Law and Muslims. When this honorable legislative body thinks of creating new laws, it should have in mind the Russian national interest first, observing that the Muslim minorities are not Russians.”
As of now, there still haven’t been any refugees accepted in the nearby, wealthy Muslim countries. Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, and the UAE have kept their borders closed.
