Junior Varsity Basketball has come to an end, with the basketball team coming back from their final challenge at the UNIS (United Nations International School) tournament, which featured five other international schools including ISKL (Kuala Lumpur), SIS (Saigon) and ISHCMC (Ho Chi Minh City). While the basketball team suffered a disappointing loss to come in fifth, they showed much heart while on the court, and did their best to bring victory back to AISG.
The UNIS tournament was a wonderful place for the JV team to play against other teams with similar abilities, and test their limits. In previous game situations, the basketball team was matched against more experienced teams, such as the NBA School and the Utaloy Varsity team, which made them doubt their skills. However, it was actually their lack of experience playing in real game situations that cost them these games. With the benefit of hindsight, the basketball team expects to preform better in future game.
Even though AISG’s JV team suffered an unforgettable loss, and were displeased by this, they however still enjoyed their time in Hanoi. The basketball team thought of Hanoi as being unique, and very contrasting to Guangzhou. Unlike the urban area Guangzhou many people are used to, Hanoi still possessed a large remainder of their old culture, which consisted of their food as well as an entire preserved area of Old Hanoi. In this old area of town several team members had a very memorable experience with eating Ban Mi, and exploring the labyrinth of stores filled with different types of enticing cultural food as well various stores that sold items ranging from clothing to electronics.
The Junior Varsity tournament, despite AISG’s losses was a delightful experience for several of the players as this tournament will serve as a reminder for improvements they must make. The lessons in which the players learnt throughout the duration of this tournament will continue to help them on their path towards becoming better basketball players.
