The athletes of the table tennis team have come a long way, despite this being the first time that they have ever participated in an organized tournament for table tennis in school. The Ping Pong team included Jadon Huang, Hikaru Kiyomoto, Gordon Liang, Boon Yang Koh, Lordphone Wen, Dylan Chan, Nina Yang, Bonny Chuang, and Belinda Tang.
Towards the end of January, the Ping Pong team attended their first ever APAC, and emerged triumphant with the girls receiving 3rd place in their team competition, and boys finished at 5th place in their team competition. There were also certain gifted individuals of the Ping Pong team, whose performance throughout the tournament was exceptional. These individuals include, Nina Yang and Belinda Tang, who won the 3rd place medal for girls doubles out of 18 other teams, and Hikaru Kiyomoto and Gordon Liang, who came in the top six of the boys doubles out of 21 other teams. In addition to the team’s victories during the doubles matches, Belinda Tang also succeed in earning 2nd place during the singles tournament out of 36 other participants.
The table tennis tennis team was delighted by their performance. This was the first time the team has participated in a competition with such a variety of athletes from various schools. The table tennis team victory was hard fought, and wrestled from several other competitors. This achievement should not go unnoticed. A sport such as table tennis one requires both focus and speed, and in order to achieve this, the table tennis team trained for three months. Mr. Webster remarked that he and Coach Gan “were extremely pleased with how the athletes carried themselves and the tremendous success they had at their first APAC.” Both the coaches, and other students hope that the table tennis team will play will the same will power and spirit in their next sports season.
