The Talent Show, which happened on Friday two weeks ago, was an outstanding success. Friday Night Live focused on singing and dancing and managed to bring middle schoolers and high schoolers together.
Not one act was the same as another. For instance, all of the dance acts focused on different dance styles. The first was presented by Sherry Kim and Beatrice Mai, who did a hip hop dance using different songs. The synchronization and the execution of the performance was excellent. Another dance act that was equally great was Gwen Farm’s: she performed a more contemporary dance piece, which awed the audience.
Other performances included singing. Senior Yumin Hu sang three different times including “Halo”, “Cake by the Ocean” and “Closer.” Another Beyoncé song that was performed was “Sandcastles,” sung by Sophomore Ai Ni Chew.
Others played instruments instead. There was a variety of different instruments played, ranging from the guzheng (played by middle schooler Choi Yan Luo) to the saxophone (played by Peter Lee, 12th grade), and from the piano to the electric guitar (Jacky Liu, 11th grade). Peter and Jacky performed together with other students in an adaptation of the Jason Derulo song “Talk Dirty To Me.” Another performance was a piano duet performed by middle schoolers Vivian Cai and Charlotte Chow.
The judges for this year’s Talent Show were Mr. Timmerman, Ms. Martin-Bauer, and Mr. Tragert. They voted on the winner, Maria Elena Little, who was announced last Wednesday. Maria Elena won for her magnificent original song called “Thank You,” dedicated to her best friend and was performed with a guitar.
The night ended with the Senior Dance which was incredibly entertaining and showed a high level of preparation. The performance included a mash-up of a variety of different Western pop and K-Pop songs. It set the bar extremely high for the upcoming seniors and their future dance that will occur in one year’s time.
This year’s Talent Show was extremely successful and was a night filled with entertaining performances that wowed the audience and kept them entertained throughout.
