With the coming of a new semester, the schedule has once again changed. Rather than having community service meetings after school on Wednesdays, the meetings have been moved to the 45 minute end of the day Tuesday block.
The caveat? Community service meetings now only happen only if it isn’t interfering with other events such as assemblies or StuCo events. With these other events taken into account, there are only 9 opportunities for community services to meet and now meeting time is cut in half. This limits how much community services can get done and leaders are not too happy about it.
When asked about these changes, Sophia P., a coordinator for Hoops for Hope said, “I wouldn’t mind this new change if it was actually every Tuesday, but so many potential meeting times have been taken by other events and it severely limits how much time we get to meet.”
Members of community services echo this statement, when asked about his opinion, Savyasachi S., a member of Rams Reception said, “the old Wednesday after school meetings were definitely too long, but I don’t think we get enough meetings to plan for events with this new change.”
Furthermore, a student who wished to remain anonymous voiced their concern over the lack of replacement activities on Wednesday, saying, “I understand why the community service has been moved to Tuesday, but now most people just go home after school on Wednesday and because of the short notice of this schedule change, no one had time to set up alternate clubs or activities for students to replace the old community service time.”
However, not everyone is against this change, as Junior Andrew Z. said, “I quite like this change, it frees up a lot more time for me on Wednesday to work on other projects and activities and while some more community service time would be nice, I think that this change is pretty good.”
