AISG’s lower and upper secondary orchestra and choir students were finally able to perform in front of a live audience ever since the COVID-19 outbreak.

The concert was split into two days, November 9 and November 11. The first day highlighted the secondary band. The second day then showcased the AISG’s secondary choir and strings.

“Since performing in front of a big group isn’t always easy, I was a bit anxious because I was worried I would make a mistake while performing. However, once the whole band successfully performed up on stage, I felt confident and comfortable playing our prepared piece,” said Danna L., a freshman in the secondary band who also performed a solo piece during the Rams Gala Talent Show.

“I was equally nervous but a bit relaxed since I’m not performing alone. Also, since we are playing the pieces together, I had to listen to how others sounded and try to maintain the balance of the dynamics and certain articulations so I don’t impact the group. Other than that, I think everything else was pretty much the same,” she added.

The upper secondary choir performed songs such as ‘City of Stars’ from ‘La La Land’, a Japanese piece called ‘In This Ancient House’, ‘How Can I Keep From Singing?’ and ‘Like the Beat of a Drum’.

“In the past, I used to be very nervous for these concerts. Gradually, as I began doing them more often over the years, I soon became more confident performing on stage. Now, it’s an exciting experience to share these songs we enjoy with the audience,” said Vikisha G., a senior in the secondary choir.

The fall concert was also an opportunity to announce this year’s APAC choir and orchestra members. By the time this article has been published, these students are already in Shanghai representing AISG.

In an assembly pep rally, the APAC choir and orchestra even gave the secondary students a sneak peek of the pieces they would perform during APAC.
