The AISG Quiz team had their first practice of the year on Thursday, August 16th in Mr. Sinclair’s room. To start off their third year at AISG, the team welcomed new members such as some freshmen students, who were previously in the middle school Quiz Bowl group.
The quiz team has participated in multiple tournaments in the past, such as ones in Shanghai, Singapore, and the Philippines. The team has also traveled to America twice for the High School National Championship Tournament (HSNCT). Jennifer Y., a junior who has been a part of quiz bowl since freshmen year, describes the activity as “[…] a fun quiz type competition that isn’t so much about being smart and more about being willing to learn both the relevant information and about quiz bowl itself.” She continues to mention that quiz bowl can be “a little hard at the beginning, but there are lots of people willing to help out and with time it’ll be more fun.”
So what is in the works for Quiz Bowl for this year? The team is currently working towards competing in the Shanghai Invitational in October, hosting the Guangzhou Invitational in February, as well as the Asian championships in March.”We’ve got some very keen freshmen coming up, which is very welcome, and we [also have] a very strong core of players that have been here for two years,” Mr. Sinclair comments. A big goal for the quiz team is to hopefully compete again and qualify for the playoffs in the HSNCT in America in May!
