A Twist in the Royal Family: Prince Harry’s Engagement

The engagement of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle, a divorced American actress, amazed people around the world as it illustrated how egalitarian the British Royal Family has become.

So, who is Meghan Markle? Meghan Markle is an American actress who is currently a well known campaigner for gender equality and is the Global Ambassador for World Vision in Canada. Her father is caucasian and her mother is African-American. Markle was previously married to TV producer Trevel Engelson and divorced two years after the relationship. Meghan was recently elected by the United Nations to be a spokesperson for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. She has travelled to Rwanda and India to promote clean water and to provide women’s education.

The Royal Family is well known for their strict policy of being qualified as a successor to the throne. As a member of the Royal Family, religion and family backgrounds are dealt seriously. The Royal Family has a conservative belief, and by looking at how they kept the members all European-based, it is amazing how a divorced biracial American woman is engaged to Prince Harry.

In an interview by CNN, the couple explained in detail how their relationship started off. The couple was introduced by SOHO House directer Markus Anderson at the Invictus game. The couple had been dating for six months before their relationship became news. It will take at least three years for Markle to obtain the British citizenship and she will become a member of the Royal Family after this citizenship is obtained.  The couple will be married next year around March.
