The yearly AISG Adults vs HS Tennis Team match occurred on Saturday, October 12. The Adult Team came out of this head to head series with four wins, one draw, and one loss. But how successful was the HS Tennis Team this year?
When this series happened last year, the AISG Adults Team won 13 out of 17 matches. This was an intimidating result for the high school players who participated in this competition for the first time. Before the competition, Freshman Max J. asked, “Is the Adults Team that good? Last year’s result is making me worried about what will happen this year.”
There were a total of 18 games played during the 2019 AISG Adults vs HS Tennis Team competition. Out of the 18 games, the AISG Adult Team managed to win 16, putting them at five wins, one draw, and one loss. The adults showed their dominance once again this year.
The HS Tennis Team managed to win two games in this competition. The first game was between HS Tennis Team’s singles 1, Bryan Y. against Hayden H.s’ father, Mr. Heffner. The score of the match was 6-1. The second game was between HS Tennis Team’s singles 2, Andy H. against Mr. Baier. Andy H. and Mr. Baier played each other two times in this competition. The first match was 6-3 to Mr. Baier and the second match was 6-5 to Andy H.
Even though the HS Tennis Team lost, playing more matches gave the players experience and knowledge about the game that can’t be taught during practices. The HS tennis team captain/girl’s singles 1, Elsie Z. said, “The HS team placed in our best effort and learned to play smarter each game. This competition is good for us because we gain valuable experience and try out new strategies.”
This competition wasn’t only good for the HS tennis team, but also good for the adults. Mr. Heffner said, “I like how parents are able to see the progress of the players and also help the HS Tennis Team to push their skills and limits. This also makes them realize what it’s like to play against people with more experience.” A lot of other parents and faculty members said they had fun and enjoyed the event.
Once again, congratulations to the AISG Adults team for another dominant performance this year! This AISG Adults vs HS Tennis Team series will be back next year.
