Apple has recently released its second generation AirPods on March 20 2019, and many reviews have divided opinions. Apple officially announced AirPods 2 will come with new features; including a better battery life, wireless charging, newly designed headphone chip, and a hands-off “Hey Siri” feature.
Apple has stated the new AirPods will have an extended usage time and users will be able to call approximately an hour longer with the AirPods 2.
AirPods 2 has a new case that allows for wireless charging on Apple’s new AirPower wireless charging pad. AirPower is a wireless charging pad designed to charge most Apple products; such as the iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods. AirPower is big enough to charge all three devices listed at the same time. However, this mat will need to be plugged into an external power source using a specific cable.
Dylan C., a senior who regularly uses AirPods 1, says, “I feel like AirPods 2’s new quality of having one hour more of talk time is a bit useless because I don’t think anyone will be talking for more than 10 minutes. I was expecting at least another color option such as black airpods.”
Lucas E., a freshman who also uses the first generation of AirPods regularly says, “I think that AirPods 2 is not really an upgrade from the first generation because there are only 4 new features and the fact that we’re paying more for it is just ridiculous.”
While there are many people with bad opinions on the new AirPods, there are users that feel like the AirPods 2 are worth their money.
Henry Y., a sophomore who already have ordered these second-generation AirPods says, “I think that the AirPods 2 feels more premium than the first generation because of the increase in speed of connectivity and the hands-free “Hey Siri” feature. Even though many people say that it’s stupid of Apple to release this type of product, I think that it is worth it because of its fast connectivity that I find convenient.”
As a daily user of AirPods, I would say that AirPods 2 are not worth anyones’ money as there is basically not much difference from the first generation. I would recommend to those interested in buying AirPods to wait for the next version where at least more color choices may be available.
