The students of AISG are refreshed and replenished from the summer break and are ready to start the new school year off right. Students and staff, both returning and new, were asked about their thoughts on AISG and its community.
Miranda W. is a returning student beginning her sophomore year of high school and is finding this school year to be both challenging and exciting. She feels that AISG’s environment is inclusive and welcoming.
“I’m ready to move on from grade nine, I am ready to start becoming more mature and to get this school year started,” Miranda said.
Maia O. is a new student starting her final year of middle school. This eighth grader is finding the AISG community fun, friendly, and supportive. She is most looking forward to the fun activities the school has planned for this year.
“My classmates are nice, and I think the teachers are really funny,” Maia said.
Katie Dean is the English 10 and IB language and literature teacher at AISG. She has been teaching at the school for seven years now and considers the school friendly and open, and enjoys coming to school every day.
“I like lots of things about my students, but one of the easiest things about our student body is that they work hard and want to be successful,” Ms. Dean said. “It’s really nice to teach students who are interested in learning, growth, and achievement, and of course, not every student will like every class, but in general the atmosphere is positive and learning-oriented.”
Some upper secondary students have Darcie Flansburg as their English teacher this year. On top of that she is also the new journalism teacher, providing students the knowledge of research and discovery.
Although this is Ms. Flansburg’s first year as an AISG faculty member, she is not new to the school environment, with 14 years of experience under her belt. She is finding the atmosphere at AISG to be very welcoming and appreciates how hard-working the students and staff are.
Ms. Flansburg thinks AISG is organized, clean, very diverse, and is loving the range of electives the students can choose from.
“It is enjoyable how comfortable and open-minded everyone is,” said Ms. Flansburg.
“The school spirit at AISG is alive and well, and I hope to contribute to it during my time here.”
This year, the members of the AISG community are ready to work hard, be role models, and contribute to the development of our school.
