Saturday, September 17 was the AISG Volleyball Invitational, an annual volleyball tournament where the teams put all their hard training to use in hopes of dominating the courts.

This year, NCPAA, BISGZ and UISG were invited along to compete for this year’s champion title.

The varsity girls’ volleyball team, led by senior captains Gwynnie G. and Sophia P., fought hard, which paid off in the end by making them champions and one trophy richer.

The ladies conquered their first game against UISG, easily winning 2:0.

Next, they played BISGZ and secured another win of 2:0.

The last team to play was NCPAA. The girls’ team lost the first set to 24:26. However, after a talk with Coach Sarah Johnson and huge support from the boys’ team, they went back on the court and were able win the next two sets, putting them into the championships where they would face off NCPAA again.

This time, the varsity girls were not going to let them win and with the loud support of the boys they won both sets, finishing the tournament with another big win.

The varsity boys’ team, led by senior Richie L. and junior Oscar L., secured third place in this year’s tournament.

Their first game was against UISG which they unfortunately lost 0:2. The boys were able to keep their heads held high and continue to go on like winners.

Their second game was against BISGZ which they played skilfully to make up for the pervious loss and ended up winning 2:0.

The boys’ final game was against NCPAA. They dominated the first set but dropped the remaining two, putting them in third.

“As the captain of the team I think this tournament exposed a lot of our core issues especially in teamwork communication and morale,” said team co-captain and AISG senior Richie L. “We needed to keep our morale high to help us succeed.”

Despite this loss they went on to support and cheer for the girls during their championship game which kept their morale high and their spikes hard.

“We started off with a rough start but eventually, through team spirit and team building exercises we were able to overcome our difficulties and even though we came third place, we still felt like winners,” said Josh J., a sophomore and outside hitter for the AISG boys’ team.

This tournament was very enjoyable for the teams to participate in and was a good opportunity to improve skills and learn from mistakes.

The other schools’ athletes said that they enjoyed playing against each other and they hope to come back next year and win.

AISG’s invitational volleyball tournament was a lot of fun for everyone to test their skills and build their morale. There were many great serves and spikes seen, and the coaches were supportively ready to help their team members be the best players they could be.
